![]() ![]() The Tor reading list that surfaced recently is just plain wrong recommending that the books be read in chronological order - publication order is how they were written and the story is designed to unfold in that order. A book a year is the pace Erikson has set, which is downright awesome. It's best read after the main 10-book series, the Malazan Book of the Fallen. The best part of all of this? Erikson doesn’t make us wait half a decade between his encyclopedia-sized tomes (you know who we are talking about). I think the flaws in the series you’ve already started to pick up from Gardens of the Moon there are lots of characters and story strands sometimes you spend almost a whole book with characters you don’t much like or care about. We tell you this so you will understand the investment of time, should you start this series. The Malazan series is incredible, I’m a bit jealous that you’re experiencing it for the first time. While much of the story seems to centre on one particular storied squad of soldiers, it is spread across several years and continents. Currently we have eight novels released in the series (with the ninth out in the UK now–yeah, yeah, we are waiting for our import copy), three short stories, and two other novels written by Erikson’s co-creator of this vibrantly imagined world, Ian Cameron Esslemont.
